A tale of mayo vs. buttaaah

Lobster roll from Lobster Cooker in Freeport Maine – light mayo with drawn butter.

Thursday, July 28, 2022 (Freeport, Maine) – Because I was getting slack from a friend that I haven’t been eating as many lobster rolls as I had promised since being here – Sooooooo, I had to convince the hubs to head to Freeport this evening to grab a roll while also visiting the giant boot of LL Bean – and to pick up some hiking shoes (reminds me of Beetlejuice).

Playing tourist in Freeport, Maine

We hit the old school Lobster Cooker on the main drag in Freeport. My hubby grew up in the area and Freeport was always a source of summer jobs – Gap, Banana Republic, Abercrombie, etc. He’s a huge fan of the fries – nostalgic memories of many work breaks and a basket of fries out on the picnic tables.

I have to say, Leslie (general manager) at the Lobster Cooker was so darn charming! She was a true Mainer – friendly, funny, and helpful. I couldn’t decide if I wanted my roll with mayo or drawn butter, so she convinced to try it her favorite way, coated in light mayo and dip it in drawn butter! I instantly gained 10lbs but I have to admit – pretty damn tasty. And my husbear was correct, the fries WERE good!

I MIGHT have also ordered a whoopie pie as well, just leaning into the entire tourist persona to avoid any additional judgement.

Overall, my only request would have been just a bit more meat in the roll, but the meat that was in the roll was clearly fresh and plump. The bread was also fantastic as it had a brioche type of quality to it and a nice buttery taste.
